St Helens Pubs

Post by HORT »

A question for Dave I think but others may know.

The old Connect had a great topic of St Helens pubs past and present with lots of info like adresses and date of opening and closing or if still open.

Is there any way we can access this again?

I guess that this could be tidied up and updated, and something could be done with it. It is the raw data from the old site.

The pub that I remember most was the Lingholm, on the corner of Dentons Green Laneand Boundary Road. I used to accompany my dad there in the early 1960s. It was run by a guy in his 60s called Bert Barton. Many, many years later it was run by a father and son, Bill and Tony Sutton. Tony was an old mate of mine from my school days

I remember it well.
Other pubs with fond memories were the Abbey and the Gerrard at the top of the green. My late wife and I used them when we visited her mum and dad in Rivington Avenue as an alternative to her dad's favourite, the Police Club in Bishop Road

My maternal Grandad loved the two top-of-the-Green pubs, the Gerrard and the Abbey. They lived opposite Ruskin Drive in Dentons Green Lane so the pubs were just a ten minute walk away for him. One was favoured by RCs and the other by CoEs but he had no preference
