Close Encounters

Post by Bert »

About 40 minutes into our flight back from Cyprus on Saturday the pilot announced that we had an emergency. After dropping quite quickly Mrs Bert said she could smell smoke. The pilot said they had detected an unusual noise and they could smell smoke; he then said, "Brace, brace, brace". I was tempted to shout, "Shiela!" The passengers were remarkably well behaved. I could not smell smoke and, considering the fright, could not detect a wiff of anything that might rhyme with fright! Looking out the window I guessed things might not be too bad; we were over the Med. and islands but heading for the mainland. I guessed if things were very bad the pilot would attempt to ditch in the sea rather than on the local population. Well I can now say I've been to Turkey, even if it was only for 24 hours.
