It'd have sent the St Helens of my youth bananas. Top Catlick praying with top Proddy Dog. It'd have been seen a bit like Churchill having a pint with Hitler in the Reichstag
How many differences are there, I know they say the end of a prayer differently and can divorce? but is that it?
Strange how top prod basically looks non religious compared to the extravagance of the Vatican lot.

It was more about being told we (the catholics) were superior. We belonged to the one true faith while all others were false or fake. It fostered a sense of difference between us kids, yet we played together quite happily totally unaware of these 'differences'
I think some of the Proddy dislike of Catholicism was nationalistic to do with the increase of Irish catholics in Merseyside in the 1800s due to the Irish famine. Certainly some of the old folk in the 1940s in St Helens could be quite disparaging about the Irish. My maternal grandad was an example; if something didn't look right he'd say "it favvers Irish"
Alan you asked the differences - mainly the one on transubstantiation. There are some very high churches near me that are Anglican that do a version of Holy Mass and have more statues of Our Lady than any Catholic church.
The main differences between CoE and Catholicism in my limited experience were that CoE folk basically ignored Mary, Jesus's mam but Catholics venerated her. Also CoEs prayed direct to God to ask for forgiveness but Catholics did it through a middleman known as a priest
The reason it is not so remarkable in this day and age is that hardly anyone goes to the RC church, hardly anyone goes to the C of E and many people are totally apathetic about the monarchy.
