Windle Pub

Post by HORT »

The Windle pub opened for the last time of Friday 15 August.
Its now boarded up with metal screens on the windows.
Anyone know what is going to happen?

Is that the one near the junction of Hard Lane and City Road where many years ago there was a Hatton's car dealership?

I believe it was Ashalls - a Ford dealership in the 50s onward.

Was up in St Helens last week for a day and had a meal at the Abbey.
A guy left later in the evening with a dog he called Socks - looked just like the picture you posted of yourself....

Hatton's was for a short while a BMC (Austin) dealership on Prescot Road although they had also traded as Dentons as a (BMC)Triumph dealership on Dentons Green Lane, just opposite Suttons Haulage's Jaguar dealership. The only dealership I can remember on Knowsley Road was Broughtons, agents for Rootes Group situated next door to Remploy and facing Rivington Road. Sorry for any mistaken memories!

Yes, Peugeot was added to the british Rootes Group range in the 1970s by Chrysler, USA. The original range (Humber, Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam, Talbot, Commer and Karrier) was already in financial difficulties from the mid 60s along with most of British Industry and Chrysler's rescue was no real help.

was that the one that looked like a larger version of the Morris Minor?

there's a youtube video of someone that fully restored that model Oxford included a Chevy V8 5.7 litre engine.

with money being no object I'll bet you'd like to have one of these?

Series 2 was the one that followed the one that looked like the large Morris Minor. Maybe I've got its production date wrong and it was a 1955 version

The windle is constantly opening and closing probably due to terrible food and overpriced beer.
You could open it yourself with a couple of grand down payment.
Anyway why turn it into a topic about car dealerships?
Have you no sense of propriety?
