Alan Posted Monday at 09:24 Share Posted Monday at 09:24 Because there was nowt else on TV, I watched, or tried to watch Englands kick and clap game against Japan. How in Heaven's name anyone can get enthusiastic about that brand of rugby defeats me. One long sprawling mess of scrums which are frequently halted because of some or other obscure rule infraction, little creativity, too much kicking and too many players on the field
familyman Posted Monday at 19:04 Share Posted Monday at 19:04 Also watched it and was amazed that in 80 minutes of rugby(?) I cant remember one forward pass.
Bert Posted Monday at 19:19 Share Posted Monday at 19:19 But who could forget the penalties, free kicks, scrum resets and long walks to the lineouts?
Brianza Posted Tuesday at 07:37 Share Posted Tuesday at 07:37 If the got rid of the two wing forwards, did away with line-outs and adjusted the scoring values they would have a great game.
familyman Posted Tuesday at 08:24 Share Posted Tuesday at 08:24 Sounds a bit like Rugby league
Bert Posted Tuesday at 09:55 Share Posted Tuesday at 09:55 Be fair FM, they have adopted a lot of R L laws even if they've tried to disguise them. Tap penalties (play in any direction except back heel), no direct kick into touch (except from within 22). High tackles, scrum feeding, the list goes on. Both codes started with the same laws but RL has evolved much quicker than RU. From the armchair one advantage of RU is that it allows me, between stoppages, to continue rescuing pets and pop bubbles on my pad.
HORT Posted Tuesday at 19:45 Share Posted Tuesday at 19:45 Scrum feeding is not allowed in either code. I do not see it RU but in RL its just ignored.
Bert Posted Tuesday at 20:37 Share Posted Tuesday at 20:37 My understanding, Hort, was that in Union recent changes allow the ball not to be placed down the centre of the tunnel. The scrum half can have a foot on the centre line but his other foot favours his own side. The ball is supposed to go in past 3 feet at right angles but the recent internationals seem to show this not being enforced. I haven't checked the laws so you may know differently. The law has certainly been changed since my day to favour the non offending side.
Big_Jeff_Leo Posted Tuesday at 22:42 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:42 (edited) Rugby Union?.........whats that? I switched the tele over and seen a mass brawl with a bunch of fellas looking for what looked like a lost ball with a crowd cheering them on.
