familyman
In the 1871 census I have my ancestors living on Eccleston Road. Any ideas as to where this is or was. On the same census page was Palm house and Pipe shop Cottage and my ancestors are in between these.
HORT
Sorry I haven't a clue. I have looked at old OS maps for 1850 and 1890 and cannot find Eccleston Road. I would love to know where it was if anyone else can trace it.
kizzy
There's Eccleston Ave, Street, Eccleston Lane Ends etc; but I can't say I've ever heard of a 'road'. There was a pipe works in Rainford too, maybe worth checking out

My ancestors are the Rigbys. Wonder if its mis-transcribed and should be street, but cant find mention of Palm House or pipe shop cottage. Both census return either side of this one mention Eccleston Road Edited September 7 by familyman
HORT
It says it's in Eccleston within Christ Church Parish.
Lankylad
Looking at the 1881 census I noticed that the Spencer and Worrall families were living in Knowsley Road and wonder if Eccleston Road might have been renamed between 1871 and 1881. The Spencers were listed at Mulberry Farm. Additionally an old St Helens map shows Eccleston Old Road connecting Holme Road with Knowsley Road. I think there might be a copy of the map on this site. FRANK
Not sure where the Palm House was ( probably attached to some local mansion ), but there was a pipe manufactory in Ackers Lane according to the 1850 OS map. Tony J
@familyman if you look a few pages back Holme Farm is on Eccleston Rd too so I think @Lankylad is correct and it is Eccleston Old Lane(*Rd) and probably went further back.
