Old Transport offices Hall Street

When I lived in St Helens the transport offices were on the corner of Westfield Street and Baldwin/Ormskirk Street, opposite Sefton Arms. There was a public lavatory upstairs there too

Now this looks like some saloon in one of them mining frontier towns in America....................but no, it is the original Green Dragon Pub in Sutton Manor!.

Alan, there were offices at tthe end of Westfield Street, as you say, but the main ones were in Hall Street and Shaw Street. The public toilets were underground at the Westfield Street building.

I do remember the ones in the basement, but I think there was a ladies lav upstairs as I can just remember my mum taking me there as a little child. She died in 1951 so it was probably mid 1940s

I used to use these premises from about 1950 whenever I went into town with my mum. I recall the mens toilets were downstairs (underground) at the end of Westfield St. and the ladies in the rear of the building at ground level (centre of building) I've no memory of another toilet unless the building was changed before 1950

Got it. It's the Ice Bar.

Yes many many times and including when that photo was taken in 1978 - to watch Superman and Watership Down

Bet no one can remember the split screens entrances in the hippodrome?

My memory of the Savoy was some used to open the door downstairs near toilets to let friends in.

Hippodrome used to have x rated films on as well as regular.The films were advertised on each side at the front.

I may be wrong about entrances but thought they had two different screens?

One of my earliest memories is the 3p Saturday morning crush at the Sutton Bug the doorman had a hard job handling all the in the queue
