Ah, Spoggy Brook. An important part of my childhood - catching tiddlers next to Granddad's allotment and keeping them in jam-jars

Your mate in Russia, Woden, once hypothesised that the Brook was christened "Spray Stream", hence Spray Street etc and Spoggy was a childhood adaptation of Spray

There used to be bridge higher up Boundary Rd. near it's junction with Knowsley Rd. but it was knocked down years ago to widen the road. My Aunt lived virtually under the bridge in those terraced houses - which were eventually demolished, a tyre company is there today..

Wasn't that a railway bridge that joined a colliery, name escapes me at the moment, with the main St Helens line. It used to run past Triplex where there were sidings, between Saints old ground and Knowsley Road and on to main St Helens line

Thats right Alan. There is now a linear park that was created on the site between Boundary Road and Dunriding Lane.

It's called the Eccleston Branch Line Linear park.

The main stand at Saints was a strange structure presumably because of proximity to the railway.

Was it Gillars Green Colliery. I recall a house up Burrows Lane on the left towards Gillars Lane called "Colliery Cottage".

Yes that's how I remember the track, running along the back of Knowsley Rd. and into Triplex. I don't remember if it was in use when I used to visit my relatives or when it closed. Maybe someone else might remember..

When I first went to Saints, the line was there so at a guess, about 1951. When I started at Triplex in 1967 the lines had been stacked up in Triplex yard and the new Triplex boss arranged for them to be moved.

Just remembered, the colliery it served was at Gillars Green
