In BJ's photo of the horse drawn trams the traffic is not keeping to the left. This rule came in here in 1835 although Pope Boneface told pilgrims to keep to the left in 1300. Not a lot of people know that but a few more do now.

I remember David (bumble) Lloyd commentating on the cricket with Shane Warne. He told Shane - ''I'm going to LA tomorrow morning, but I'll be back later on''. Shane was surprised and said '' What? to LA and back in a day?''. Bumble then  replied, '' yep, lower Accrington. I'm going to USA the day after''.  Shane '' What? the States?''. Bumble '' No, uther side of Accrington''.

Thanks BJL, Great Photos, especially The Prov as I trained there to be a Nurse till just before it closed, then I moved on to work in Billinge Maternity Hospital.

Re the 2nd Photo, I'm guessing that is Lowe House in the background, but I can't figure out where it was taken from. Any ideas? :dunno:

And that sweet shop on tyhe LHS of Duke Street by the bus-stop was a 1950s/60s favourite called The Chocolate Box
