Used to go to the Saints with Sammy's brother and would call at the shop on the way home. He would have a couple of warm pies waiting for us and one to take home. That would be when I was about 12 years old (1950).

I just wish I could get pies full stop!!!  They don't do proper pies here, of any sort, unless you count the so called Melton Mowbray pork pies Tesco sell - never been anywhere near Melton Mowbray - taste foul.  There are steak/kidney ham/chicken etc - but proper meat & tattie pies - not a chance.  Pork pies?  non existent, make my own if the craving gets really bad.  I seem to choose places to live where meat& tattie pies are unknown - Greece - nowt.  France - nowt!  Here - nowt.  Woe is me😭

there's a bloke on YT - John Kirkwood's his name - he's a retired baker from Geordieland and he shows how to make really tasty pies and pasties. I've tried his recipes and am well please with the results.

The local butcher's wife in the next village does some great pies; steak, pork, steak and black-pudding, sausage rolls from their own Cumberland sausage and so on but never a meyt and tater pie. I'll be in there on Wednesday and I'll find out why not

After eating pies from a local shop I used to get terrible pain. At first I thought the pies were iffy. After describing my symptoms to the doc. he said, "So you think you've got gaul stones". I knew you were supposed to be fair, fat and forty to have gaul stones and since I only had two of these qualities I ruled out this possibility. And that's why I never became a doctor.
