Roughsedge family

Recommended Posts

My gran lived at 11 Highfield Place Prescot in January 1922, I have her bible giving that date and address.  Her name then Was Alice Mary Roughsedge (later marrying Robert Smith). Does anyone have any pictures of the house or information on the family please?

I have a family tree for Mary Alice Roughsedge born 1905, Prescot. Daughter of William and Gertrude Roughsedge.

http://www.prescot.org/?page_id=1301&t=2&root=2&pid=47989

There is a Mary Smith in the 1939 Register born 1905 - but she is shown as being married to a Harry Smith - they have 2 children Edward and Desmond born 1926 and 1931 respectively. Not sure if this is the same person!!

As for Highfield Place , formerly Parr's Square, the area has in the Census since 1841. By the 1950's the area had become almost a slum and the area was cleared in the late 1950s becoming a car park.

More recently the area has been cleared and now forms the site of the Shakespeare North theatre. https://www.shakespearenorth.org

As part of this development a full archaeological survey and dig by the University of Salford- I have not yet seen any results so far.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the posts so far.  Roughsedge is not a common name but I know there are still people in Prescot with the surname.

I have the info about my gran's mother, father and siblings now, thank you and the addresses she lived at as a child. I can now research further. I didn't know my gran had so many siblings. I may have distant relatives still living in and around Prescot!!!
