Hi, wonder if someone could help me. My great grandparents lived in Parr and I know some relatives are buried in St Peter's churchyard. I'm just wondering if my great grandparents are also buried there. Their names are Mary Ann Smith, 1871-1950 and John Henry Smith, 1870-1950. If they are, is there any way of knowing if there is a headstone?

Any help would be most welcome.

This is  from the information in the burial book in church.

Section A ( Very top right hand corner at the side of the vicarage garden)
Plot no 44
Grave Purchased by RICHARD SMITH
RICHARD SMITH 24 January 1895 2 yrs
JOHN HENRY SMITH 21 April 1911 16 mnths
ROWLAND SMITH 25 January 1933 28 yrs
JOHN HENRY SMITH 20 March 1950 80 yrs
MARY ANN SMITH 26 September 1950 77 yrs

And this is from the actual headstone
RICHARD
Son of JOHN and MARY ANN SMITH
20 January 1895 aged 2 yrs
Son
JOHN HENRY SMITH
21 April 1911 aged 16 mnths
Son
ROWLAND SMITH
20 January 1933 aged 28 yrs
Above
JOHN HENRY SMITH
18 March 1950 aged 80 yrs
Above
MARY ANN SMITH

This means there was once a headstone which they recorded info from but doesnt prove there is still a stone there now.

Wow Ratty, that is an amazing amount of information. Thank you so much. I have a lot of relatives buried in St Helens Cemetery who, with the correct information are reasonably easy to research .  The information from burials in graveyards proves more difficult to access. I will definetely have to make a trip to the churchyard next time I'm in St Helens.

Thanks again. You've made my day.

That's interesting...I wonder if Parr St Peter's graveyard information is available online?

I'm looking for any trace of the family Ellam. There would be John Ellam, also possibly Sarah, and others....

Here's hoping!

Thanks Ratty. I'm back up in St Helens later on this year so will visit. Hopefully the church will be open as it would be interesting to see the inside.

Could I ask if you could check two more relatives for me. Thomas Smith 1848-?and Elizabeth Smith 1849-? They are my great great grandparents who I also think are buried at St James'. Unfortunately I don't have a year of death for either as yet

Hi Ratty....I'm looking for your help again!

You passed on this detail for my grandparents' grave plot at St Peter's...

Mr tenpercent -

There's this one in Centre Section

Plot 47

So on my last visit, I spent a while searching the headstones, but no luck.

Is there any way to get a better fix on where this plot might be situated?

I tried ordering a CD of the graveyard plans, as mentioned in another post, but  it has never arrived...

many thanks

Hi Mr Tenpercent, just noticed your message about not receiving the CD. I ordered mine at the beginning of February and but got no acknowledgement that my order had been received so I emailed and got a reply to say the person who does the CDs was away.  Received my CD today so hopefully yours is also on the way. Hope this helps.

Yes thank you Lou-Lou, mine just arrived also. I visited St Helens a few days ago, but had no luck tracing the grave plot I was looking for. Now I think the diagrams in the CD will be a big help - will try again after Easter. Good luck with your search!
