I remember that building from 60 odd years ago. There was an open steel door on it and inside was a steel ladder bolted to the wall which led up onto the roof. Another memory of it was initials scraped into its sandstone blocks that dated back to the 1800s.

Other memories are of "bottomless" pits with railings around them. We used to chuck stones into them and count how many seconds they took before we heard the sound of them hitting the bottom

As a matter of interest, who owns and has responsibility for the building's upkeep? Was it originally just a sort of summer house?

A friend and i was at the beacon Tue and Wed night so i could get the moon pics(it was cloudy) but with it being pitch black we couldn't see half of that.

I should of said as well... i don't know what they get out of it.

When i was growing up that's one thing i didn't think about doing and i never.
