Hackett Brothers

Hi there, I'm researching my family tree, in particular the Hackett side of it. I'm in the Black Country, which is where we originated from. I've been looking up my Great Grandfather James Hackett, and in turn this has led me onto looking for his Brothers Matthew, David, and Alexander.

For some reason the three of them moved up to St Helens, probably between 1900 and 1910. I have no idea why, but I'm assuming it would be for work. From the bits of stuff I can find on Ancestry, Matthew and David both joined up to the army for WW1 but didn't see action due to ill health and were invalided out. I've drawn a blank with Alexander. Ancestry has given me some leads to their descendants, but I cant be sure if their correct.

So, its a long shot, but just wondering if anyone has links back to them, or could help with researching them?

Cheers.. Pete

Hi there! Thanks for the quick answer! According to the bit of info I've got so far, he indeed was. Looking at the link it seems to be him as, if Ive got it correct, he marries a Julia Farrell. It certainly seems so! :)

Cheers for this!

If I've got it right, David Hackett marries a Fanny Sidaway (in Dudley) and they have a child called Doris Hackett who later marries a guy with the last name Sturgeon, and they emigrate to the USA. I believe David and Fanny may separate? I did a grave search and she seemed to be buried without him, I cant actually find that info online anymore.

Matthew marries an Elizabeth Grayson, but I cant be sure about their kids? Whether they already belong to her, or they have them together, or both? This info is sketchy, even on his military documents.

Any help would be amazing! :)

Peter, I don't know if it's of interest or relevant, but I knew a Peter Hackett at Triplex Safety Glass, a division of Pilkington Brothers Glass in St Helens in the 1960s. He was the Personnel Manager there. He was about 40 at the time so best guess, he was born in the 1920s

Just wondering, does Alexander J Hackett come up anywhere? I've some info for him from Ancestry, but dont have access to the other sites, he was born 1918 and died 1964. He's the son of Matthew Jesse Hackett (1879-1922) and Elizabeth Rigby (1878-1944) I believe the J in his name is Jesse again. He doesnt seem to appear in the 1939 St Helens registration index, but just wondering if anyone can place him anywhere else, or who he may marry, or if they have kids. A Lily Burley comes up in an ancestry search, but I cant be sure? He looks like the only child from that relationship proper, I think the others may be from previous marriages?
