Windleshaw Chantry Volunteers

Recommended Posts

Here's some pictures from yesterday of Ted Forsyth and the team of volunteers who are unearthing headstones.Ted was telling me that around 12 people in all arrived yesterday to do their part which he was really made up with..when i got there late afternoon 3 were left, all lovely and polite. They were also planting bulbs, tidying up and maintaining the burial ground,it's alot of hard work.

I finally met up with Hort (Ste) and his border collie (Socks),infact the lady in the pictures wearing the pink top is Horts Daughter. Finally Hort it were nice meeting you and ill be back up next sunday earlier if your around.

I can tell how much work has been done with not calling up for many months and personally i think they should get recognition for what they are doing,it looks completely different, well done all.

Ted and the team are looking for volunteers so if anyone wants to help you can call up on sunday from 10am-4pm but bring your own gardening tools

Sorry I cant be of any help Ned but I do appreciate all the hard work you've done and continue to do, you deserve an award. Do you keep a list of all the deceased buried there.Good luck with the rest of it hope you get many volunteers.

Still doing a lot of research but have done about 3,500 names out of about 8.500 so still a long way to go. my problem is I tend to do so much. St Mary Prescot is a long way of being finished but I will get there

Ian the guy with the drone decided to call yesterday afternoon as the weather was great plus he has a job on this morning and doesn't know what time he'll finish so the time were right.

The tree's were in the way for low pictures and too high it didn't look right..the sun was burning aswell

Come winter when the leaves have fallen he'll come again and do more,Ian has had the drone 4 weeks.Hope these are okay Ned

There is too, I know it

I have (or rather my husband has) 4 graves there, two side by side hidden by the big tree at the top end, one to the left of the tower wall and one on the left side of the path in from the 2 cottages, just behind the fenced grave.

I clicked the link Ned but i still can't see anything, maybe i have to join..ney mind.

Anyway the morning started off with rain which put a dampener on the volunteers not turning out but some did.The sun started to come out mid dinner and Hort also came along.

Here below i've never seen so many species of Harlequin ladybirds in one go,there was groups of them scattered around on the headstones

You are all doing fantastic work! I must come and visit soon. My great great grandparents, Edward (d 1852) and Maria (d 1891) Fox are buried in the graveyard. The grave, which I visited in 1999, is marked by a pink granite cross. The graveyard looks a lot better now than it did then!
