JCC24
I'm looking for information regarding members of the Cross family who resided in the St Helens area. Especially from the early 1700s backwards. In particular the families of William Cross (1710 -1782) & his wife Tabitha Fenney (1711 - 1784) I'm having trouble finding Williams' parents. I believe l have the correct parents for Tabitha - Henry Fenny & Mary Kendrick/ Kenwrick. I believe they were Non conformists - New Chapel Independent. Any assistance would be most appreciated. archery
hi Janet I saw that you were looking for information on William Cross. I have found from online St helens Star that he was left land by Henry Fenny. I have found more at www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk under Horology Birth 1715 Windle married Tabitha fenny 1740 he was appointed trustee of St helens Independent chapel 1742 1747 retained in revised body of trustee 1753 appointed 1 of 4 trustees of Berrys fund for support of minister 1755 Made joint statement about investment of John Marshs money 1778. The trouble is that there is a lot of people with the surname Cross in Lancashire.Another web site you could try is www.lan-opc/uk This is lancashire parish clerk on line. archery
Thanks for the information which I have already. Do you think there is a will for James Cross The nearest birth looks like the bap 3 June 1764 James son of William and Alice
RATTY
There is no will showing up for him Did you mean the Ormskirk bap 1764? what makes you think he was from Ormskirk, just because you only found those choices doesn't mean you have to choose one of them, he may have been RC or Methodist or something, in which case the record is not online to find, I wouldn't be too quick to claim those parents until I had more evidence. added 29 minutes later I would be tempted to order the actual death cert, it would give me the address at death (possibly) and then you could look for the rest of the family then(1841) and going forward at least, that may throw more light on the matter. Ha lol, didn't check the beginning of the thread, just thought this was a new post, sorry
archery
I know that he must have been an apprentice to a family member to learn about clock making. Which is a 7 year apprenticeship because I had the records of all clock apprenticeships sent to me from Liverpool and his name is not in them because there was a tax to be paid. RATTY
It's certainly a tricky one with not much info to go on. I may be one of those that has to be laid by until there are more records to search in future years
