'Lance has been a valued and integral member of the squad for the last three and a half years and we thank him for his service.

'We wish him and his family well in their life after rugby league with St Helens.

'St Helens will make no further comment on this matter.'

Very sudden?

Has he not Jeff. I underated him four years ago and couldn't understand why or how Saints gave him a four year contract. Apart from a couple of games he has been next to useless. Maybe some one has found him out or his conscience mortally has pricked him.

I think a claim has gone in. A personal injury claim at the end of the career is a nice little pension. Saints and the rl are being very quiet. He wasnt even mentioned on friday. Fishy

ALL British RL players, even down to junior amateur level, are required to be insured, usually via a group or team insurance. Unless Saints have been paying an absolute fortune for individual's remiums, I doubt that he'll get anything like a pension out of it. More likely a lump-sum of a few thousand quid

...now if he'd been a soccer-player..

The game is changing, they are very sensititve about concussion lately and have put new control measures in place, this suggests there is a problem and the rl have recognised they havent sufficiently met their duty of care on that specific injury. Now a player has retired and is alegidly blaming that. I might be putting 2 and 2 together and making 10 but I know a little about h&s law and I think these factors means there's liability and a claim would be upheld. The public liability Insurance you mention is for exactly this scenario and must cover a minimumof £5 million.

all my opinions are my own and based on nothing but speculation

Also I'm not criticising. If theres an injury caused by your work you should absolutely be compensated. My worry is rl will be american football or tick n pass shortly

All teams have to have public liability insurance PLUS players' insurance. The latter covers incapacity through injury and also death. The amount of coverage for each player is dependent on both claim history and, of course, premium paid. The public liability insurance is to protect members of the public, ie non-players
