Jenny Dennis
Hello, I am helping a friend research her family who lived in St Helens. She knows very little of her Father's family . He was Henry Eden 1921 - 1986. His parents were John Eden and Esther Annie Lyon both born around 1900 and married in 1920. John and Esther split up at some point and Esther, always known as Annie, remarried Gerard Reid in 1945. Henry Eden was, as she was told, mainly brought up by an Aunt who had a daughter Mary. When my friend visited the Moss Side Labour Club in the 1980s she was given the phone number of Mary who told her she was brought up with Henry. We have been unable to identify who the aunt was or Mary. Most of the bmd events seem to be in Prescot. We are aware that the family came from Elephant Lane and mostly miners. If anyone has any information that would help us or could put us in touch with someone who might be able to we would be very grateful. Thanks
Tony J
BMD's in Prescot would be right as St Helens was not a fully fledged registration district in those days, Could she have been Teresa Annie, not esther as found this couple in the cemetery or a simple mistake http://crem.oltps.sthelens.gov.uk/ Put forename gerard and surname reid in the search, could explain a bit as he was 14years younger than annie if its the right couple also noticed a John Eden born about 1896 buried with a Boughey family, George Henry, Mary Ann, and Annie, am wondering if aunt was not a blood relative! bartonaj
Hi there I see that John EDEN married Annie LYON at St John the Evangelist in Ravenhead on 26 Jun 1920. John's father is given as Isaac EDEN and Annie's as James LYON. John appears on the 1911 census living at 185, Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath with parents Isaac and Ann EDEN. He has eight siblings: Margaret, Isaac, Ernest, Ruth, Joseph, Henry, Albert and Arthur. Isaac was born around 1871 (according to the census), therefore this could be his baptism: Baptism: 8 Mar 1871 St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, Lancashire, EnglandIsaac Eden - [Child] of John Eden & Ann Abode: Eccleston Occupation: Collier Baptised by: D. Morgan Curate Register: Baptisms 1870 - 1879, Page 14, Entry 108 Source: LDS Film 1657584 I'll try and help with more information if you like. Just send me a PM. Cheers Andy Further to my last, Esther Annie LYON was living at 67 Edge Street in Thatto Heath according to the 1911 census. Her parents were listed as James and Elizabeth Ellen LYON. She lived with siblings James, Edith, Walter and Joseph. Again, drop me a PM for more details Andy
Jenny Dennis
Thanks both. Tony: The couple in the St Helen's Cemetery Index are the correct ones. Gerard was quite a bit younger than Annie - though I don't know why she changed her first name. She clearly disassociated herself from some of the family. Would be interested to find out why! Andy: Thanks for that - I had the wrong parents for Annie Lyon - will look at that on Ancestry in due course.
