I have Sarah Ann MOLYNEUX (b 1877 at 23 Grove St, Sutton), daughter of Alice (born 1839 as a Johnson and then Carter) and William MOLYNEUX (coal miner, born abt 1830 and died 1889). Alice ran a business as a fruiterer. Other childen include Thomas MOLYNEUX (born 1879) who married Alice Ann WHITTLE in 1904. The Molyneux family was from Sutton. Any use?

Just an idea Dave, but would it be possible to compile a database of members name interests. This would be easier than looking through all posts to see if anyone else is researching the same people as you are.

Apologise if this is already available but I've not come across it on this site.

(Give me some guidance and I might be able to compile it)

We did have a 'Name Interests List' on the site. It was basically an Excel spreadsheet saved as HTML and it had fields:

Surname, Forenames, Area(s), Date(s), Email Address.

It got quite big and I managed it via an email form that members would fill in, and then every so often I'd add all the latest names and put it on the site. There was a big problem with it though. Spammers were getting hold of the email addresses and using them - even though it was (supposedly) only available to logged in members.

I did toy with the idea of using PM links instead of email addresses, but the size of the URLs used for PM links -

e.g. <a href="http://www.sthelens-connect.net/forums/index.php?act=Msg&CODE=4&MID=1">
Member Name</a> (for mine)

for every name in the list would have made it unnecessarily large for people to download.

Ideally, we'd have a database only available for members that would put automated links to their respective PM boxes beside the entries. It'd need to be coded with php with a MySQL database.. I know what I want, but I haven't got the expert-ease to be able to do it.

Update, 31st March 2007
This has now been addressed with the new Name Interests List. Thanks to Sadfish.

Hi Mich

Really interesting my Cooks - my great grandmother was Elizabeth Cook, daughter of William Cook who left his wife and lived with another woman and had three more children in Parr. He was a Mining Union Man and his obituary was interesting. I would love to know more about him
