Last time I went to the Cables club it was on a stag do with Liverpool comedian Bert Cook(now deceased) and a stripper(not together !) a guy obviously p,,,,d kept heckling Bert whoi came ou with a great put dow. "How tall are you?" asks Bert.5 foot 7 shouts the heckler. "First time I've seen s..t piled so high" says Bert..brought the house down !

Well Mr B what score was it? did they play well,

The best worst side won. Cables 0 Clitheroe 2. The pitch was a quagmire and, as I was driving didn't sample any of the 26 real ales or 6 ciders. Gareth did and enjoyed them. There were more people inside the club than outside- it rained heaven's hard all the way through. The crowd only numbered 127, even with a beer festival, it seems few people follow local football.

We stopped off for a quick one in the Junction, Rainford. Does anyone know who has the Bentley Brookland reg. A11AN ? It's a bremmer smile.png

Cables 7 New Mills 1. Two hat trick men McCarthy and Dixon. Connor Mc's first goal was pure Roy Vernon !

But the crowd was only 210. Come and join the fun. It's one of the few places in Prescot where Prescotians aren't outnumbered!

Prescot topics are allus being debated, one of this week's__ how many gas-holders were at the gas works? The answer by concensus was 2, but it could have been three wink.png I didn't post that they were sensible topics but what the heck smile.png

The gate price for coffin dodgers is £4.00. A quality programme is only £2.00 and for those who enjoy a smoke, smoking is allowed inside the ground.

Well you learn summat new every day

Local lad Len Ashurst joined Cables after being released from Liverpool FC as a teenager. In 1957 he joined Sunderland where he made 458 appearances (second-most in the clubs history) before embarking on a 20-year managerial career.
