Maybe in the beginning when it was a bit of a rigmarole for people to copy and pirate VHS tapes, but it was done. DVDs seemed like a good thing at first, but the protection was cracked pretty soon by a fifteen year old. Then the likes of Lovefilm with postal and online services hammered the nails in the coffin.
