Alan
According to informed gossip in League Weekly, it's only a matter of time before he joins Joel at Saracens. The issue is of course the much higher money that he can earn in Punt and Grunt or even in NRL compared to Superleague. What should the RFL be doing to create much more income from TV etc so that we can reward our players competitively when compared to Rugby Union or even to Aussie Rugby League? gangad
You can`t really blame any player for moving to a higher wage,it can be a very short career and could well be finished in one game, he has got to secure the best future he can.The game can only go so far nowadays IMO the RFL has missed the boat in promoting the game and fell too far behind unon in Tv coverage England are playing Wales and France I belive shortly, where has it been advertised? A good point, but with all the advertising in the world, would RL fans support it? We are so tribal that we only turn out to watch our home-town players or an England v Australia Test

leschip
It will be a pity to see ST go to kick and clap. He is a rare talent : still as long as we keep hold of Johnny Lomax all is not lost to our great sport.
joe90
Last week it was Hock who was going to Widnes, this week it is Tomkins going to union,he signed a five year contract not long back for a reported £250,000,a year,i have never heard Joel Tomkins name mentioned while he as been at Saracens, will it be Charnley or another player who is moving next week to another club. Alan
It was Danny Lockwood, Editor of League Weekly, who reported a conversation he had with one of the leading lights of Saracens at a golf tournament. Not knowing that Lockwood is a journalist, this guy shot his mouth off. I'm sure Saracens could easily afford to buy out Sam's contract and I'm equally sure that Wigan would welcome the cash
joe90
If Wigan wanted the cash why did they not let him go the same time as his brother.
joe90
Danny Maguire banned for one match and fined £300,he will appeal in the morning then they should give him another two matches.

Get you ! If this had been a Saints player rumoured to be going to kick and clap you'd be on here quoting the bloke you met in a pub in town, who told you something going on at Saints that you can't repeat on here. Except to tell us that when it does happen you told us all first ! Which by the way we never found out what it was, that was going on at Langtree Park. For the record I hope the story is a load of bull. Tomkins despite being a Wiganer, is a fantastic player whose talent would be wasted playing "proper" rugger. He's always seemed a fair player to me Have i ever mentioned him before,i thought he was a fair player till you look at his record,he as already been banned this season and he should have been sent off last Friday.Remember last year when he took the Wigan player out without the ball and he injured himself and he was out for a while. gangad
Much as it pains me to say it.I agree with Joe he should have been banned for three matches the same offence as McIllorum and roughly the same diciplinary record yet a different outcome .ALL players should be treated equally
Donkey O'Tay Esq.
I don't think it had the same intent as "Micky Mac's". Nobody in RL can complain if players chase the money. That's why RL was set up in the first place. I say good luck to any of these working class lads getting a decent payday.
Alan
Compared to the obscene money in soccer just a few miles up the road, its peanuts anyway. The game will just have to get into the 21st Century to develop income-streams to be able to afford it. Most clubs now have the basics of a decent stadium, they just need to follow the soccer example by pulling in corporate "guests" and other well-heeled supporters (the prawn sandwich brigade!). Oh and not sell the game short by doing deals like the current Stobart Transport one
Guest
there is a rumour that hankook tyres from australia are being courted as a potential new sponsor, they already pump a lot of money into the nrl so hopefully we can attract them here. dig deeper
Although I think Tomkins is a very good player I couldnt see any NRl teams wanting him as a full back when they have the likes of Slater,Barba ,Inglis Stewart , Bowen ,Minnichello, any many more up and coming Players with far better ability in than him at that position ! joe90
I have just been on Wigan website and Sam Tomkins is staying at Wigan, also he said that he wanted to play for GB in the world sevens in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.Heinz soup have just come out with another soup,it is called Beef ,Tomkins and Onion soup,it is to raise funds for joining Jack campaign. Tomkins is Slater's equal and better than the others mentioned in your post IMO. Look at the success the English lads who have gone down under have already had. Burgess,Morley Ellis and our own James Graham. Then there's Gary Connoly,Gary Schofield,Ellery Hanley, Jonothan Davies,Andy Currier. And going even further back, Cliff Watson ,Tommy Bishop and Dick Huddart. We underestimate our lads ability too much I think. When the likes of those players mentioned play in the NRL they can more than hold their own, and in the majority of cases are actually outstanding. Read Eric Ashtons autobiography, Some of the things that he says about Vinty Karalius on the tour he was christened "Wild Bull of the Pampas" made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
