boxkey4
I wouldnt fancy living in one,I can imagine them being dark and dingy. But I suppose thats better than letting it fall to bits, which is whats happening now.At least with it being a listed property the outside structure cant be changed,,,,,am I right with that one. RATTY
Wouldnt surprise me, they seem to on a money grabbing spree at the moment, selling of the family jewels at stupid prices, the museum building is up for sale at £250,
tessmop
Ratty, this is your Labour run councils behind this,it's a disgrace and it's why I don't vote them.
triumph
glad to see that the building is staying put it has a long and varied history watch factory-ww1 barracks-printing works to name a few oh yes it even had a nut warehouse at the back that we called the nut factory no i did not work there ( sorry i was talking to the wife ) think it might be what's called a truscan building which could be why its listed still i hope its saved
Phyll
I just Googled this building, to have another look at it. How can they redevelop it, without changing it? Which is what you are not supposed to do to a listed building. Is this the one? http://www.britishli..show=streetview
RATTY
Thats the one Phyll and I passed it yesterday, its doesnt even look as good as that, its a des res pidgion loft at the moment, theyve just left it to rot really. I was only thinking yesterday what could they possibly do with it, they could have used it as community market ie for car boots or craft fairs or as exhibition space, office space even put the museum in there and expanded on it but I suppose it would have cost too much money, then they go and spend 5.9 million of lottery funds (just to start up a kitty mind) on one painting, makes you SICK! I read up on it once, the Daily Post and Echo bought it from Tinlings Printers probably because they printed a rival newspaper there and they wanted it shut down.later they sold it to Knowsley council I think
Phyll
Thanks Ratty, I agree, they should have maintained it, not left it to rot, especially if it's a listed building. Then they could have used it as a Museum, as people in the other thread are saying, where are all the museum items? Makes you sick to think that Watchmaking in Prescot was once the best in the world, plus they could have honoured the soldiers who once were there when it was the Barracks. Let me know if you hear anymore please.
leschip
Ratty, for £1/4 miiion you also get the Library sort of a Municipal BOGOFF. As regards to the Watch Factory being listed and can't be demolished: may I remind you all that in 1972 Robin McGhee had the empty Kings Arms building preserved. Nice try Robin, but the Council allowed the building to fall into a sorry state and then played a trump card. 'The weight of the trams turning at thr Turnpike had under-mined the foundations and the whole building was now unsafe and uneconomic to repair. Result Council 1 Others 0. Mind you it was an ugly sod of a structure.

RATTY
Havnt found anything yet, have searched the planning applications for a few weeks in Public Access also with no luck http://publicaccess.knowsley.gov.uk/PublicAccess/tdc/DcApplication/weeklylist_searchform.aspx All I found was this http://consult.knowsley.gov.uk/events/6643/814774_accessible.pdf which is an interesting read in itself although a bit dated, it mentions Everton FC going to Kirkby which they rejected
