James Leyland born 1870 Smithwicks Staffordshire, son of James & Unity Leyland nee Cook, he lived 15 Hardshaw St, St Helens 1901 occupation Fine Arts Designer, James (father) born St Helens about 1841, moved to Smithwicks Staffordshire in the early 1860’he married a Unity Cook in Staffordshire. James (1870) emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1912 with wife Margaret two children Sydney James and Constance Margaret, last known address is 609 Dunsmuir St, Vancouver 1935. James died in Vancouver 13 July 1935 aged 65. Sydney James born St Helens 20 March 1899, he was in the Canadian over-seas expeditionary force in WW1, lived 1549 Haro St Vancouver British Columba in 1918, he was in Vladivostok, Russia, in 1919. Last known address is 639 Keith Road, North Vancouver 1949. He died aged 80 1st June 1979. Constance born St Helens 1909 married a Stubbs, last known address 1665 Kamloops St, Vancouver in 1949. wrb Posted April 16, 2015 Author Share Posted April 16, 2015 Hello Tom & Margaret I am researching the Leyland family from St Helens, my Gx3Grandparents are William & Margaret Leyland nee Twist, William was baptised 10 May 1783 by Father John Orrell at St Mary R.C. Blackbrook godparents Richard Chisnall; Margaret Callon, William is one of 12 children of Thomas (1748) Ann Leyland nee March. My above posting about James Leyland the father born 1841, this is now wrong from further research, it is his brother John born 1841 there is no baptism found for him at this stage, he is the one who went to live in Smithwicks Staffordshire and married Unity Cook in West Bromwich Staffordshire 1863, Unity is the daughter of Robert & Sarah Cook, Sarah is Roberts first wife at this stage no idea when Sarah died, Robert latter married Hannah.
