Phyll
Hi Johanna, Welcome to Connect. I don't know if any of this is helpful to you, let me know. There was a George Britch married Jane Potter on 14/3/1899, at Parr, St. Peter's. On the 1901 Census on Connect, there is a George Britch, b1879 in Padgate. Transcribed wrongly as Britck. He is with his Wife, Jane b1873 and 2 Children, Thomas, b1899 and Mary E, b1901. Also with them are a Thomas, b1872 and Eliza, b1876. There was an Ernest Britch married a Hannah Frost on 24/12/1921, at Eccleston St. Thomas. I have a Hannah Frost in My Family Tree too, though I haven't fully researched her yet. Graham Thorne
There is a privately published book (The Britches of Bruche Hall) written by my cousin Wilfred Trevor Britch, which shows the family history back to early medieval times. George Britch, (known as 'Bobby' Britch because that's what his job was), was our grandfather and lived a lot of his life just off Merton Bank Road, at Parr in St Helens (across from the Star Inn) but the house has long been demolished. Family members have copies of the book but I believe they have a copy at Warrington Library, being adjacent to Bruche ! Hope this helps Graham Thorne

Graham Thorne
I can't give a date when my grandfather, George Britch, retired from St Helens Police, but I'm sure I recollect my mother (Renie) saying it was after he had completed 25 years service (the normal duration in those days). He then got a job as a park keeper in Taylor Park, St Helens, a role he really enjoyed. Probably from pipe smoking, he died from cancer of the tongue partway through WWII and Renie, who was serving in the WAAFS, was given a compassionate posting to Blackbrook so she could be close to him in his last days. She would occasionally reminisce about sitting with him and trying to ease his pain as he slowly passed away at home in their house on the corner of Holly Bank Street and Merton Bank Road. It was at Blackbrook that she met our father, Frank Thorne, who was also in the RAF. His wife (my nan), Jane Britch (nee Potter) lived long into old age and moved to the old folks home at Nut Grove, St Helens where she was living when she passed away. Can't remember the date but, as I was in my mid-teens, it must have been the early 1960s.
