bartonaj
Hi Gill My great-grandfather's brother, Robert Eccles (born 1887 in Bold) married a Jane Almond in 1909. Jane was born in about 1887 and died in 1929 (buried at St Helens Cemetery). Robert and Jane lived at Oxley Street, just off Robin's Lane (Robert's father Henry also lived in Robins Lane). Is Jane part of your Almond family? Cheers A.J. Barton Wellington NZ

dorothy
Thank you for the information Dorothy.Do you know anything about Mary Ellen Waterworth née Almond after her return from Australia following her husband's death. Regards Gill I have checked the St Helens burial and crematorium records - found Mary Ellen Waterworth was cremated 2/9/1983 - number 24079. Mary Ellen was the eldest of 10 children (2nd child Joseph died aged 5 months). Most of the information on this side of the family came from a contact in Canada. One way of finding out more may be to check the voting records of people living in Robins Lane from 1930's? Her father moved to 152 New Street around 1932. When I next call into the library I will do my best to look this up - but it won't be for a while yet. Dorothy
piaf
Dorothy, Thank you for that information, Mary Ellen lived to a ripe old age and it confirms that she didn't return to Australia after her husband's death and never remarried. Are you still in touch with your contact in Canada? Would the family have any photos of Mary Ellen and her husband? Will send you a p.m.regarding, the story of her and my Uncle. Once again thank you for the information it is very much appreciated Best wishes Gill
Mapleleaf
Hi Gill I think I may be the "Canadian connection" Dorothy referred to. Sorry but I don't know much more about Mary Ellen other than they married in 1926 in London S'merstown. I have some additional info on Mary Ellen's siblings. My father, Terry ALMOND (1917-1996), used to visit the family when he was a child. Her parents were Joseph and Kate (nee Glover), and they married in 1887. They attended St Anne's RC Church in Sutton. Mary Ellen's father Joseph was my gt-grandfather James Almond(1856-1938)'s brother. Margot
