mishka
1901 census for Co. Galway Townland: Loughrea T/Galway Road Parish: Loughrea Baroney: Loughrea County: Galway Household: Tierney Head Joseph 47 bootmaker Ellen wife 46 Joseph son 19 tailor Thomas son 14 bootmaker Bridget daughter 13 Mary Kate daughter 11 Nellie daughter 9 Hubert son 7 Unfortunately that part of Galway is not yet online for the 1911 census report. Families didn't move around much and as you have the townland they were living in (Loughrea T/Galway Road) I will find the local church for you if you want and you can then make enquiries (if it is still there) to see if there is any access to the records for the Tierney family history. Births etc. were not required to be registered in Ireland until the mid 1860's - and they didn't always do it then. The Irish say 'if there's a rule, how can I break it/get round it' which doesn't help us much when trying to do research. Hope the above helps

Hello I have just joined this site. I saw this entry and would like to discuss with anyone any further information you may have. Joseph Tierney was my great Great Grandfather. My Grandfather was his son Thomas. My mother was the only daughter of Thomas and came over to St Helens to work with her uncle. She has a wealth of knowledge that may be of use to someone. She is currently 75 years old. Any information about my ancestors would be great.

John Joseph married an Annie Cullen whose family came from Galway Loughrea I think as a Michael Cullen m Winifred Quirke from Loughrea. John Joseph had a son Hubert b 1913 in St Helens. Paula Joyce
My grandfather was Joseph Tierney (the tailor) of Galway Rd, Loughrea. My dad, also Joseph Tierney, moved to America in his 20s. Hubert Tierney was my great uncle. He was the brother of my grandfather, Joseph Tierney. I have a copy of the Tierney Family Tree but not sure how far it goes back.
