I have been researching Quinn.

It seems that in 1861 there were not that many in St Helens. In 1871 there were a page and a half. In 1891 much fewer. In 1901 they had increased again. It just looked a bit odd to me.

By the way, why don't we have the 1881 census on here?

Just a warning against falling into the trap of assuming that all Irish emigrants were Catholics, or that all people with a particular surname were. Not all Irish protestants were prosperous, nor all Catholics poor. Always keep an open mind. It was also not unknown for people to change their religious denomination, usually in the hope of advancing themselves.

Griffin

I only said could explain,no offence meant.

Also they may have changed their stated religion but would they have compromised their contraceptive advice?

I was making a veiled reference to the sudden proliferance(is that a word) of Quinns from one year to the next.

Collins would be the name I was most interested in.

Especially if you know anything about Charles born 1870 married to Bridget. I know they had a daughter Mary Ann about 1902, but nothing after that date.

This is from 1911 census address Gibraltar Cottages Earlstown

Charles Collins age 39 birthplace Runford (most likely misspelt) possibly should be Rainford or Rufford

Bridget Collins age 38 birthplace Co.Galway married for 11 years, children born alive 7, 6 still living

Martin son age 12 birthplace Prescot

Ellen dau age 10 birthplace Parr

Mary Ann dau age 8 birthplace Parr

James son age 6 birthplace Burtonwood

Thomas son age 5 birthplace Earlstown

Charles son age 4 months birthplace Earlstown

I hope this is of some help to you

Sorry only just seen the date of this post

Hi New on here but am interested in the Lea and Higginsons´ families both of whom lived in the Parr, Sutton and Windle areas of St Helens during the middle to late 19th century (and maybe before and beyond?). My maternal grandfather and grandmother were married at the Holy Trinity Church in St Helens in 1908. John James Lea b 1886 and Alice Higginson b 1890. Any info on these two families would be hugely appreciated. My email address is johnken1912@gmail.com (John)

Hi and welcome by the way bye1.gif

Alice's parents were James Higginson b1860 Parr and Alice Higginton? b 1861 married at Holy Trinity Parr Mount 1/2/1880

James parents were Charles Higginson b1833 Ashton le Willows(in Makerfield now) and Ellen ? b1834 Parr. Marriage is missing from records I can access, you need to search the history and archives library, probably for Parr Holy Trinity. There is census info also but too late tonight.

Your Alice and John James Lea died in Chester 1954 and 1960
