Having access to all the census on line, and connecting with people from Genes Reunited I have a lot of names linked with St Helens. I thought I would post them all, and see how many more links I can get through this site.

I am related to Gill and Norris

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any of these names in their tree.

Adams, Adamson, Anders, Bellion, Birchall,Blackett, Blair. Bolton, Collins, Cunliffe,Darlington, Davis, Dobson, Fisher, Fogg, Grace, Groves, Haworth. Jess, Langley, Lawrenson, Leach, Mee, Middlehurst, Miller, Murdoch, Platt, Robertson, Saxon, Stannistreet, Tabbernor, Tabron, Tinsley, Twist, Watson, Welsby, Williams, Wright.

Maggie May

My great grandmother was a Tinsley - Ellen, born 1876. She apparently had two brothers, Joseph and Moses. I don't really know much about any of them, but I believe there is a connection to White and Birchall a few generations further back.

What is your White connection? There are a few of us on here with Whites.

My great grandmother Ellen Tinsley's parents were called Joseph and Esther Tinsley. Esther's maiden name was White. Her parents were Moses and Ellen White. She also had a brother named Moses. Ellen's maiden name was Birchall. I don't know any more than that, I'm afraid.

Doesn't ring any bells at the moment but I will keep these names in mind as I continue with my Whites.

It was, cousin Ted. She came from Scotland. Another one of our rellies, member Trevor (closer to you than me) worked that out a while back. He hasn't been on for over a year though. I hope that he is keeping alright. It shows that she was Scottish on the census years.

Yes - Elizabeth McCulloch was born in about 1835 in Scotland. She married Peter in 1852 in St Helens. She was buried on 17th July 1901 in St Helens.

Marriages Sep 1852 (FreeBMD)

Critchley Peter, Prescot 8b,736

McCulloch Elizabeth. Prescot 8b,736

Known children of Peter and Elizabeth Critchley were (and see the note at end of post):

  • Thomas - abt. 1857
  • Mary - abt. 1861-1885
  • Eliza - abt. 1863
  • Janet - abt. 1866-1885
  • Peter - abt. 1868
  • Margaret abt. 1870-1891
  • Jessie - abt. 1873
  • Walter - abt. 1876 < Trevor descends from this line.

I felt really sad researching that branch - seeing how young some of the girls were when they died. :(" alt="sad.gif" border="0">

Here is one of the grave records IF you're using Internet Explorer and IF the cemetery website is working when you read this. :)" alt="smile.gif" border="0">

Census years:

1841 - living with parents and siblings including my gg grandfather Henry at 'Cotton Yard' near Croppers Hill

1851 - still with parents and siblings (but my Henry was gone - married) at Eccleston Street.

1861 - don't know where he was then. Probably working out of town.

1871 - living at 37 Napier St with wife and family.

1881 - living at 237 Boundary Road with wife and family.

Peter died and was buried on the 1st of December 1882 (his brother Henry died earlier the same year).

1891 - Elizabeth living with daughters and young Walter at 161 Westfield Street.

1901 - Elizabeth with son Walter and daughter Elizabeth at 71 Peter Street.

Which child of Peter and Elizabeth do you descend from? PM if you don't want to say out here.

----------

Note - going off the grave record it seems as though they also had a son called Henry who died as a five year old - buried 20th Feb 1859. He would probably have been the first/eldest child, born abt. 1854. Plus the daughter Elizabeth is a tad confusing in 1901.

I have HARRISON's and JACKSON's in my family tree. My Harrison's are from Haydock and Parr. I have a Peers Harrison born in about 1821 in Parr.

I have lots of JACKSON's, my nana's maiden name was Jackson. I have Jackson's born in Haydock, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows and Somerford Booths in Cheshire.

Anything here of any use?

Does anyone have anthing extra on Peers Harrison b. 1821?

Also, I have Twiss' and Forshaw's in my tree.

Regards, Kirsty.

War(e)ing Hi Kirsty,

I saw that you have the war(e)ing name in your name list, have you any connection to a Thomas who Married Alice Hull. I know they lived in Black brook near Haydock but I cannot find anything on the census for them. Their Children were Winifred 1792, James 1793, Robert 1794, Frances 1796, Elizabeth 1799, Dorothy 1801 James 1808, Thomas 1809. I cannot find that area on census, so any help would be really good. Happy New Year.

My best wishes,

Pat.

Hi my great-great grandfather James WEBSTER was born in Eccleston in approx. 1820. His father was John but as yet I can't find out anything further. James married Ellen CRAWLEY from Prescot and his first 2 children were born in Prescot and Windle respectively. There could be a family link to Thomas or William Webster -brothers? cousins? born 1815-1818 ? Any info, anyone?

Webster is a name connected to Rainford, most were farmers, Windle could also be Windle Moss, and Eccleston then was farming land,

Hi Jill,

Do your Gaskells come from Ashton in Makerfield by any chance?

I'm researching Betty GASKELL and James PRESCOTT at Downall Green

and their very confusing families.
