Kirsty, I have some names you mention in your list but I noticed you haven't put them in the names interest section of the forum. Perhaps you could do this and then exchange e-mails with those who have the same interests.

Can I suggest all the others replying to this post who havent done so also add the names they have an interest in.

Thanks for the tip. I've added some names to the forum and am keeping my fingers crossed for some replys.

Happy ancestor hunting. Regards, Kirsty :)

Please don't be afraid to make new topics about your surname interests. It's okay posting on existing topics but if the title doesn't reference your particular name interest then it won't be found as quickly from the forum/name interests search functions.

I don't have a Samuel, my Cheethams all come from Smithy Brow, then Sutton. Coal miners and iron workers, Thomas Cheetham & Nancy Cundliffe are my earliest definate links, I think Thomas's parents were Henry & Grace, nee Poole, married Farnworth 1806

Hi Jill,

Do the JACKSON's and HARRISON's I've mentioned above (posted on May 4th) have any connection to your tree? Also, I've have TWISS' married to FORSHAW's.

Hopefully we have a connection.

I have a public tree on Ancestry.co.uk if you'd like to take a look for more details on my Jackson's, Harrison's, Twiss', Forshaw's and anyone else who may be of interest. Follow the folloing link (hopefully it will work - not tried this before):

Hi Jill,

The start of my Harrisons is with James Harrison Born 1682 in Sutton. Burial 19/6/1731 at St. Helens.

Married Margaret Bushell 24/7/1707 at Prescot.

Margaret was from Billinge.

Son - Henry Harrison Born Feb 1709.

One branch went to Utah sometime between 1852 and 1861

Does this fit in with your Harrisons.

Hi Kirsty

Your link worked great.

How did you do it?

I have been doing both my Holden and Naylor lines from St Helens on Ancestry and would like to make their info available to the group incase someone sees someone that they can connect to but I can't figure out how to do it..

I know the tree has to be public and I have it as that but other than sending out invites to those who want to view them I can't see how you were able to just send a link for anyone to view. I cked HELP but couldn't find anything on it.

SO if anyone wants to ck my Holden's and Naylor Lines out on Ancestry please email me and I will be glad to send you an invite to view them

email address is slc33@texas.net

Both are still a work in progress and am adding info all the time befor and after work and my day off.

Hi Sharon,

I'm glad the link is working - I wasn't sure that it would when I originally added it to my posting.

To do the same go to the home page of your tree (you'll have a choice of tabs above the pedigree view of your tree; stories, photos, family tree, people & home - just click on the home tab). Once on the home page copy and paste the web-address of the page of ancestry you are on. I hope that makes sence my computer/internet lingo is lacking. If you have any problems please e-mail me.

Here is another link to my tree just incase anyone wants it:

I have several St. Helens & Lancashire family names in my tree including:

ABBOTT

BAINES

FORSHAW

HARRISON

HEATON

JACKSON

LITTLER

NAYLOR

NICHOLSON

PARKINSON

TWISS

UNSWORTH

Happy ancestor hunting, Kirsty :D

To Kendy,

Maggie May and me share the Tabron or Taberner family tree. Our great grandad John Darlington (Birchall) was the son of Mary Tabron from Great Sankey who married Joseph Worral Birchall in 1855 in Sutton, and her father was Thomas Taberner born in Burtonwood in 1786. Son of Timothy Taberner and Phoebe Williamson married 1775 Warrington. Can't get back any further than this. The Birchall's in Sutton lived in Welsh Row very close to Thomas Taberners brother William and his offspring. Would love to know if you have any connections, and really appreciate any info on that line that would help take it back as far as 1651!!!!!!!! Wow!

Maggie asks who your wife is by the way?! Something to do with a connection with Rhoda Darlington and George Anders. She's closely linked there.

Thanks,

Steph

My Jones's were in Sutton in the 1800's, before that Herefordshire.

Harrisons link into a few branches.

Hi Jill,

This is my first post on the forum, just joined yesterday.

My 3x-great-grandmother Ann JONES was born c1833 in Sutton or Marshall's Cross (depending on the census).

She married James COOP in Prestwich in 1855 and her marriage certificate gives her father as William Jones, occupation Railway Inspector.

Looking at censuses I have found a William JONES in Sutton of about the right age to be her father, who is a railway labourer in 1851 and a railway policeman in 1861. His place of birth is given as Stretton (Herefordshire or Staffordshire depending on the census).

Ann does not appear on these censuses with this family, but I think I have found her in 1851 working as a servant in Scotforth, which ties in with her residence at time of marriage - given as Lancaster.

I wondered if this the same JONES family you have in your tree? And whether you have found a daughter Ann for them at all?

Thanks,

Sarah :)

This William is the same as my William

born Merton, Herefordshire

1841 Baxters lane, ag lab

1851 Paradise Row, railway lab

1861 Church St, railway policeman

1871 Church St, imbecile (that's kind!)

died 1874

He was "married" 3 times I think

1st marriage unknown, daugter Jane b 1838 maybe in Herefordshire

2nd marriage Mary Lowe, son James 1840, Thomas 1842, John 1848, Henry 1850

3rd marriage, Hannah, daughter Esther 1854, William 1858.

I have never come across an Ann, but this doesn't prove anything.

I havn't looked at this side of the family for some time and think it may well be worth revisiting and rechecking my info.

Thanks Jill,

I had found the 1871 census with "imbecile" as well and wondered what might have happened to him. Perhaps he'd had a stroke or something? What a horrible way to describe someone!

So far, this William Jones seems the most likely father for Ann based on the location and occupation, but that doesn't prove anything of course, especially as I haven't yet found anything to connect Ann to this family.

I do have a photo of "my" William, and also one of Ann. I don't suppose you happen to have photos of your William so we could compare?

no I don't have anything about this branch of the family. William was my paternal grandmother's ggrandfather. Everything I have is from public records. Though I do mean to get his death cert at some point to see what happened to him

Thanks very much for that Jill! Where did you find that?

This is my first connection with St Helens and I'm not familiar with the area at all, so will have to learn about the surrounding places, etc.

I will see if I can track that family down in the censuses. :)

EDIT: I've just found that baptism at Lancs OPC. I wouldn't have thought to look in Burtonwood - I'll have to study the area!

Thanks again!!

Thank you Jill. That's very useful. I've now found Ann in the Burtonwood baptisms, as well as what looks like a sister, Betty.

No luck yet finding the family on the censuses though. Although I have found a possibility on the 1841 census in Lancaster (Ann's place of residence on her marriage certificate is Lancaster). The William Jones there is an Inspector of Plate Layers for the railway, so that is also something that could tie in with his occupation of Railway Inspector on Ann's marriage cert. Still all just "maybes" though, but I will keep searching. :)
