PENNINGTON and INGHAM

I forget

Recommended Posts

OK, big excitement, as I'm coming pretty close to a 'temporary halt' to my other lines, I thought it was time to start on my other major 'lines of interest' in the St Helens area.

I have left these up to now, as there is not as much info to get me started. But lo and behold, a relative has 'remembered' that they have an old marriage cert. So, if anyone out there has any links to the following, please let me know. I am only at the initial stages of research now, and will have to wait for spare Xmas money to really get going on buying certs.

Parish of Christ Church, Eccleston

5 Oct 1927 Groom: John Edward PENNINGTON, 26, Miner, 12 Grafton Street, St Helen's

Father: Thomas PENNINGTON (deceased), Occ: Joiner

Bride: Bessie INGHAM, 28, 19 Doulton Street, St Helens

Father: Arthur Wolfall INGHAM, Occ: retired

I have found some good refs on FreeBMD for the births of John (1901) and Bessie (1899), and one good match for Arthur's marriage. (thanks to the middle name!).

Post here if you have these names in your trees. Even if there is no obvious connection, it will be useful to refer to them as I work my way back in time.

Cheers :D

Thomas Pennington If you find a Thomas Pennington born 1844 in Windle he appears in my tree. I have his father and mother but have not gone any further

Thanks Jim,

Think it will take me a while to get back to 1844, but it all helps. Will keep him on file.

Annie MARTIN's father is John

Arthur INGHAM's father is Peter and Annie his mother.

Here is an example of the census entries I have found for this family:

Annie INGHAM, 37, b Gloucestershire

Oh dear,

I've been having one of those '14 day free ancestry trials' and its given me a brainstorm. Please ignore totally the above post. Iwas only looking at census entries, ie not double checking at all. It is still Margaret LOVELY.

Normal service will be resumed in 14 days + 2 (for sleep!)

I also have a pennington link which i have only just found out. My great grandmother was EMILY PENNINGTON. She was born in St.Helens in 1879/1880.

Her father was John Pennington, but he was born around 1850/1851 in Upholland. His wife was Jane.

Hi Marie and Margaret2r,

No link at the moment, but I am waiting for some more certificates to arrive. Was hoping they would turn up before my ancestry trial ends, but thanks to the 'who do you think you are' programme, they are 'busy' so its taking longer than usual. Will post when I have some more info.

But keep listing your Pennington/Ingham ancestors, even if I don't have a connection, maybe someone else will. I have been a bit surprised at the number of Penningtons around Lancashire. Its proving harder than I hoped to find the right ones. Down here in the SE of England its relatively uncommon, so its a bit of a surpise to find quite so many!

Ah well

I have put the INGHAM's on their own in Name interests, as I have more on them. Hope to be getting more on the PENNINGTON's over the next week.

Watch this space..

Fingers crossed  Cindy

My father was the John Edward Pennington you are researching.  He had two children with Bessie - Norma and Grenville.  Bessie died young from tuberculosis.  My father remarried on 12th August 1944 to Ada Tinsley from Evelyn Avenue, Parr.  They had three children: Barrie Tinsley Pennington (me - 1955), David Stuart Pennington (b.1949) and Patricia Olive Pennington (b. 1946). Another child was stillborn.  My father died in September 1974 from a heart attack.  When I had a son I named him John Edward George Pennington.  My sister has two daughters: Diane and Adele and my brother has one son, Gary, now living in Australia with dual citizenship.  I still live in St. Helens as does Pat.  My brother has retired to Llandudno.  I have photos if you are interested.

Regards,

Barrie Pennington

Hi Barrie,

I've only just caught up with your reply, I have sent you a message (May 2020).

We are related via my husband.

Just in case it goes to a redundant email address I thought I would post here as well.

Please do get in touch by sending me a personal message from here and I will get a notification.

Cheers

Cindy Pennington
