  1. Hi Paul, have you tried searching for the name here ? http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/cgi-bin/mkindx.cgi?parish=St+Helens&type=Township&community=Sutton Regards Ste M Forget that, it doesn't cover those years either.
  2. Plenty on the Royal Edward in SHROH as well. Good luck.
  3. Hi Dave, couple of grave photos sent to Connect email re SHROH. Still can't get on from laptop, have to disable Virgin wifi on phone to get on, not ideal 😞 Ste M
  4. Hi Dave, there are plenty of pictures and articles in the gallery of SHROH relating to the RAMC which I'm sure, with a suitable acknowledgement, could be used. Good luck Ste M
  5. Hi Catty, we didn't find anything to add to his page on SHROH from the newspapers but maybe a fresh interest might glean something from here. Good luck. Ste M
  6. Well, well, who'd a thought, William L Henderson is my 3rd great uncle, mums side as well!
  7. Hi Mark, I suspect there is every possibility that not all casualties are listed, if the WW1 names on the town memorial are anything to go by! It may be that if family didn't put forward names then they weren't listed, sad but it happened plenty of times with the WW1 names. The wounded or died of the Boer War are searchable on Ancestry, no home locations though and they are listed in the very good book 'Red Roses on the Veldt' again no home towns. Let me know if you have any names and I'll check both. Ste M
  8. Or local church memorials which would give you individuals and or families. Using http://www.sthelensrollsofhonour.co.uk/home have a look at the memorials section. It would give an idea of how local men fought and died all over the world. It may lead to some links being found between the kids and the casualties ?
  9. Missed you Sunday Jeff, just saw you leaving Town Hall snapping away :-) . Spoke to a few people regarding relatives ( Seddon, Laird, Barnett's ) did not know about SHROH, do now. Sorted our A Barrett/Barnett issue on SHROH as spelling mistake on Cenotaph, collared Simon Cousins who will sort it out:-). Dave, didn't get to Taylor Park, went up to Billinge.
  10. True, everyone focuses on those "famous" battles and tend to forget or never knew about the massive battles in March, April and May were the Germans threw every thing they had in a final attempt to win the war and Haig's famous "to the last man" order which our 55th West Lancashire division followed to the letter at Givenchy, infantry, engineers, orderlies, cooks, in fact anyone that could carry a rifle did!. Then the "last hundred days" were the allies ( now including America) threw everything they had at the Germans to finally break their resolve. It took everything, even though Germany was on it's knees, their troops did not give ground without a massive fight. An oft forgotten about period but hugely important, it goes without saying.

  13. Dave, I'm rubbish ! I can't see the link in the footer. Also when I right click the tab and look at the inspect tab it shows this error Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Attachment Not Found). Mean anything? Is it worth me re registering ?
  14. Can someone try either the WW1 or WW2 tabs and see if they get in ok please, I still can't get in. Thanks Ste M
  15. Hi Dave, I'm getting the "Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable" message again on SHROH ? Cheers Ste
  16. Just had this info from the council for those interested- As you are probably aware, in commemoration and remembrance of the end of WWI, Beacons of Light will be lit at 7 p.m. on 11th November 2018. In St.Helens a Beacons of Light event will be held starting at 6.45pm on Sunday 11th November 2018 at Taylor Park. The address is: Taylor Park, Grosvenor Road, St Helens WA10 3HXThe event will last no more than 30 minutes and refreshments will be available from the Boathouse cafe afterwards. Ste M
  17. Having spoke to Simon Cousins from the council, he assures me that this isn't the actual Norman Harvey VC statue, but another by the same sculptor called The Haunting. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4088906/Tin-Tommy-s-ready-scrap-20ft-metal-soldier-haunting-reminder-World-War.html He feels confident that the Newton and Earlestown team will have the correct badge ( if the statue has a cap). Anyone seen it yet? Ste M
  18. Not sure how the badge is fitted but surely not beyond the means of man to get a correct badge and replace it before October? Hope the Lee Enfield has correct deac cert ! ;_)
  19. "The two-metre high statue, capturing the moment just after the action that won him the honour" for £100,000 you would think it would be accurate?
  20. http://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/news/16406379.2m-high-statue-to-be-unveiled-in-honour-of-vc-winner-norman-harvey-at-mesnes-park/ Anyone spot the error with the statue?
  21. Great photos Rob. My fav is the silhouette of the BOB flight
  22. Hi Jeff, it is in there but the photo I took is awful, reflections and light everywhere. I'll have to try again when I'm up that way.
  23. Hi all Has anyone got a picture of the vulcan works memorial ? I have managed to save a trio being split on Ebay to a George Green who worked there and, I would assume, be on the memorial. He served with South Lancs and RFC/RAF. He survived and lived in Earlestown and his mum was from Clock Face. Cheers Ste M
