I'm here in the U.S. and have an Ancestry subscription. Are you looking for anything in particular? Lisa

    MANCHESTER Haydock

I have a Lambert Heaton (1828) in my tree. Descended from Thomas Heaton (1796). Not sure if they came from Haydock or not. Lisa Ellam

Wow! What an interesting read! It really brings the life of my ancestors to life. Thanks! Lisa

I looked around and found the Ellam House that you spoke of. It must have been quite large to be on the map but I'm sure that my Ellam's had nothing to do with it! All of them worked hard in the coal mines all their lives. Doubt they would have had the means to own a property that size! Lisa

Oh my gosh! A long time ago an Ellam in the US told me that there was a bridge called Ellam Bridge. I bet he meant Ellamsbridge Road! He was born here in the US but his father came from St. Helens. I'm sure he heard that fact from his father! I made a note of it at the time and then promptly forgot about it. How exciting to find out that the rumor is true! Thanks! Lisa I'm off to check the link. Thanks! Lisa

    GenesReunited (was Connected)

Just my two cents here but I also paid the money for genesreunited. Doing my research from the U.S. is tough and I can use all the support I can get. However, I made contact with one gentleman who had the wrong information posted about my family. I contacted him and gave him the correct info and told him I had the certficates to back it up. He apologized and was quite nice about it all. But the incorrect information is still posted there. I always double check all information I receive but others don't and I don't want someone picking up the wrong info. Is there an administrator on that site to report this to? Lisa Ellam

Anne: I've pm'd you the 1901 census for Florence Briars and Samuel Booth. In addition, the St. Helens Marriage records show a marriage between Samuel Booth and Florenciae M. Briars on 14 Feb. 1920 at Sacred Heart RC. I also found them in the St. Helens Cemetery. Samuel Rushworth Booth was buried 5 June 1962. He was 71 years old. Florence Mary Booth was buried 16 Dec 1978. She was 79 years old. They are together in Grave section 52, Grave #71. If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know. Everyone on these boards has been so kind to me I really enjoy giving back. Lisa Ellam USA

I had a look at the St. Helens Cemetery and there are a number of Briars buried there. I just scanned the page but the name Annie is there. Have you looked at their records before? I found lots of information on my Ellam side there and it got me through the brick wall I had been facing for years! Lisa Ellam

Thank you for the lead. I'll do some research on that name and see what I can turn up. Lilly and Norman are names I haven't run across yet but I will keep searching! Lisa Rick: I was contacted by an Eddleston about one month ago asking about this marriage between Mary Ellam and Peter Eddleston. I have an Eddleston connection on my tree that goes like this: Ralph Ellam b: 1824 married Elizabeth Greenall in 1853 and had three children before Ralph died. Elizabeth then remarried Lambert Heaton in 1860 and had 4 more children. One of those daughters, Rachael Heaton married a Thomas Eddleston in 1890. The gentleman who contaced me (Norman Eddleston) was trying to make the Eddleston connection to the Ellam tree through this marriage between Mary and Peter. I was not of much help. Ralph Ellam b:1824 and Mary Ellam b:1822 could be siblings or cousins. I don't know. All I know about Ralph is that he listed his fathers name as Ralph on his marriage license. I also know that in the 1851 census Ralph was a visitor in the home of Joseph and Jane Valentine. Do you know who Mary's parents were? Have you been in contact with Norman Eddleston? If not, PM me and I will send you his email address. Geneology is addicting but it is so much fun! I have been known to forego sleep and food when I am "on the trail". Lisa Ellam I have Samuel Ellam and Alice Mather in my "who are they" file. I found Samuel and Alice buried in the St. Helens Cemetery along with Joseph Ellam, Emily Ellam, Joseph Mather and Peter Mather. I'm curious about Samuel's connection to my tree. Perhaps it's time I looked into it further! Thank you for the information! Lisa It's even more rare in the USA!! We are always the only Ellam's in the phone book (although now my brother-in-law has moved to town) and nobody can pronounce it! My children are used to answering to anything close to Ellam! The fact that it is rare leads me to believe that all the Ellam's in St. Helens back into the 1800's (and before) are probably connected. Making all the connections has proven to be challenging, but I'm up for it! Lisa Ellam

Alan: I haven't come across any Ellen's yet in the family tree. Lots of Margaret's and Elizabeth's! Thank you for that information. I'll file it away for now in my "who are these people" file! Lisa

Hi! I'm new to this board and am so excited about this site! I am researching the Ellam name in and around St. Helens. Other names on the tree include Greenall, Heaton, and Watkinson. All my research is being done from the U.S. Part of the Ellam line emmigrated here in the early 1900's. Lisa Ellam
