    Engine Inn, Parr - LIGHTFOOT

    Kirsty
    By Kirsty,
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any information relating to the Engine Inn, Newton Road, Parr, St. Helens. I'm interested in the history of the pub and what it would have been like around 1911. I'm looking at the 1911 census when John James LIGHTFOOT was landlord. Any info on this LIGHTFOOT family would also be interesting. Many thanks for reading

    Guernsey Evacuees

    the olden days
    By the olden days,
Does anyone remember the Le Cheminant family who lived at 34 Cowley Hill Lane during the War.  Thelma was in the WAAF, Violet worked at P{ilkingtons City Road, Barbara at a Shoe Shop, Freddy was at Rivington Road School, and so was the youngest Jennifer.  The one I am in touch with still is Sylvia who will be 86 on 15th June two days before me.  Barbara, Sylvia and Jennifer were in the Saxon Troupe with me and we entertained at various schools and Church Halls all through the War. I first visited them in Guernsey the year after they returned with a friend Margaret Smith who was 15 and I was 14 and 1 month in 1946.  I fell in love with the Channel Islands then and still think of it as m,y dream place to live.   Jennifer lives in Australia and Sylvia is still alive and living at L'Erre in Guernsey.  Their Dad didn't escape as they evacuated women and children and were overrun by Germans before they could join their families.  He was still alive although they had no news of this for about 3 days after the end of the War.  Citizens /Advice got lists each day of known survivors.         J   J

    Bradley Family

    Robertb
    By Robertb,
I am trying to trace the Bradley family. They left St Helens in 1927 for Australia. Frank Bradley, Annie Bradley(Boardman) and their two sons Herbert and Francis. Frank Bradley was born on 8th October 1886 at Platts Bridge, Whiston. His father Isaac Bradley married Sarah Smith on 12th April 1886 at St Thomas Eccleston. Their address was listed as 136 Liverpool Rd. Isaac Bradleys' father was listed as soldier with no first name given. Sarah Smiths father was Thomas Smith, a miner. Any help in sourcing further information would be appreciated

    Come to st.helens this sunday?

    non sibi sed omnibus
    By non sibi sed omnibus,
Visiting sunday could be a turn off. Go down westfield st,missing the flying machetes, knives, bottles. wear a keflar vest and feel safe. police advise yo make surd you keep all wallets hidden, bags securely locked.keep all keys, phones hidden. Dont park on the Range car park. Instead of going to saints match you could safely?sit in one of the local hostelries that are still open and watch them. Then go to one of the local carparks where you have safely? left your car to find its been taken only to find it being held by police as a result of a car chase. If you do happen to get in a scrap you can visit the Millenium centre but youll have to wait behind the local baddies getting treatment. Then if youve come by train. You can get back to central station to find Northern have cancelled all trains AGAIN? VISIT ST.HELENS .? OH BY THE WAY ITS NOT MY WORDS BUT AN AMERICAN JOURNALIST WHOSE JUST REPORTED ON PRESCOT. THAT I MET TODAY.?
