From the local press.

This happened, or I should say that it nearly happened to my dad when he was in his 80s. In a phone call he was tricked into giving criminals access to his laptop. They did that by telling him that he was a part of a special operation by some kind of a national crime squad. To help them, he was told to go to his bank and draw out a few thousand pounds, so that when he came out, a criminal would approach him to ask him for the money. After this, they would swoop in and arrest the baddie and Dad would be a hero. They were going to call him again the next day to arrange things further. I'm glad that he phoned to let me know because I told him to stop any further contact. They phoned, and he ignored them, so they bricked his laptop with a virus they'd put on it. It wasn't so serious because it just meant reinstalling Windows (and I would have done that without the vandalising).

But anyway, it's nice to see that some of these bastards have been caught.
