Talbot

Post by HORT »

The Talbot Ale House closed a couple of months ago and I have heard a rumour that the Cinema Bar are to take it over.
Anyone heard of a start date?

Opposite the Plaza, facing Duke st, but on the corner of Talbot St. That was 70 years ago so it might have moved since lol.

It was Duggie Greenal that had it. We called the The Cinema across the road the Oxford Bug.

I didn't know the Talbot had closed. It was a favourite pub in the early 60s where we'd go in the 'interval' from the Plaza ballroom. Duggie Greenall had it then.. he became landlord of a few other pubs around town later on. He also had the Victoria in the market at a later date as well as a couple of other pubs and bars around town.. When the Talbot got full we'd go in the Rifle instead where Peter Harvey was landlord for a time during the 60s

I never knew the Plaza. It changed from the Oxford cinema to Plaza in about 1960 by which time I was living in Sheffield at uni

Heavy work going on at the "Talbot" at the moment, I noticed the other day that they were laying a raised paved area to the front.
