There seems to be uncertainty in today world, weather, virus, internet hacks, supply chain disruptions and our ways of working based on J I T stock held. What are peoples thoughts on store cupboards, a waste of time and effort or something to seriously think about.
I have married sons with kids and big mortgages, and they laugh when I talk about a few bob behind them and a safety net store cupboard. Although foreign holidays etc are seen as a basic 'must have'. They are all in their fifties, so it's not like they are teenagers. Have times changed so much.
You have answered it. Big mortgages and living in the now. If they have jobs that have pension schemes they will be relying on that and the state pension. The bigger picture here just shows how much the UK economy is based on own ownership and that is why homes are overpriced and rents are extortinate. If house prices took a tumble, everyone in the UK would be in a mess. In the past, before Brexi.t the retirees took themselves to Spain/Greece to buy cheap properties and live off their equity. They had their state pensions and private pensions and frequently reminded their children they were having the time of their lives with low overheads. No such option for the fifty/sixty somethings unless they are exceptionally financially secure. They might as well live in the now.
