My memories of St Lukes was attending sunday school with my cousin June Parr. I was so pleased I couldn`t wait to tell my teacher the following morning. When I did I got a real good telling off. St Thomas was built around 1840 by the Greenall family,some patrons of the church were buried around the grounds but the main burial place was St Thomas graveyard in Hewit Avenue opened in 1887 but funerals stopped in 1960 and it was neglected,vandalised and finally closed in 1983, most stones cleared, very few remain. | St Thomas, Westfield Street : |
