Started in late 1940 and remember being taken to the Air Raid shelters on numerous occasions during Air Raids. The Head of the infants was Miss Wratten and the Headteacher of the junior school was Mr Sam Lewis.
We had to take our gas masks everywhere we went in case we had a gas attack and had regular 'gas practice'
However we still got a first class education in the '3 R's' along with being taught life skills etc. --A cracking school in every respect!

I have some school photos that I'll try to upload. The people I remember vary from year to year. For example, in the Infants', because my birthday is early September, I was with children who were both from the same academic year and the year above from whom I was separated when the older children moved up. Similarly, in the Juniors', I was moved, with some others, after 1A straight to 3A to be with the next year group up. Teachers in the Infants' school included Miss Tunstall (Headteacher), Miss Morgan and Miss Henthorn(e?). In the Juniors' were: Mr Harry Cooke (Headteacher), Miss Callon of the vicious cane, Mr Waring, Miss Wroe, Miss/Mrs Simcox, Mr Glover (later replaced by Vic Smeltzer) and Mrs Ripley. People in my class included Keith Burrell, John McCarroll, John Mercer, Neil Burrows, Ken Neild, Norman Pickavance, Harry Anders, Pauline Grundy, Norma Tunstall, Beryl Cooper, Patricia Wilson, Hilda Young, Pamela Brannon, Betty Burnett, Elizabeth Bruen, Anne Critchley, Rosemary Hogg, Janet Waring, Colin Briody, Graham Painter, Eric Noonan, Bernard Waller, Joe Brookes, Geoff Taggart and Ian Heath. I can't remember everyone but if I can upload the photos I'm sure there'll be some that others will remember. I remember Empire Day celebrations in the playground and Morning Assembly in the Hall. I remember Summer School Holiday fortnights in Rhosneigr, Anglesey.
