Fantastic to see the old name still on the building. It was listed on the 1901 Census as 'The Little Pig' .

It became called the Little Pig because the landlord used to keep a pig in the pub

It's been boarded up for a month or two now.

Two schools of thought on the "Little Pig". There was at one time a small local abbatoir at the rear of the pub is one, the other is refernece to the Runcorn Gap railway at the bottom of the road. When we dug coal in town it was shipped by canal and rail to Widnes/Spike isle from Baxters lane up to Sutton Manor/Clock where the line runs it is a considerble brew. The small but very hardy tank engine that assisted in shoving the load up the hill was "a little pig" engine.
