My cousin Dave Jones lived and travelled with silcocks fair his nickname was [ patch ] because his hair in a quif used to fall over his eye he worked on the walzer he got me on there working when the fair was in st helens old Arthur silcock was the boss when you were scint after the week-end would sub you your wages when you got paid he would take the sub back then lend you money again the next day you were always in his debt so could not leave remember Bobby Langtree working there as well great set of lads all older than me taught me quite a lot about girls who fancey fair lads ned i say more lol

used to be a big fair near Beechams .where the Tech collegae is now,
a bloke used to dance and skip about the waltzer ,he lived in town ,
but he was from down south somewhere.he spoke quite intelegntly,
he scared the girls to death,he never touched them but he used to go right
near them girating,

Hi, I remember the fair well.We always looked forward to Silkcocks coming to Parr.It was on the Licker at the rear of Parr Stocks Road.The toffee apples/candy floss and goldfish in a bag.Half a crown went a long way at the fair.

Wellcome to connect Luciemia,I lived in Parr in those days,like you say all the kids looked forward to it,do you remember the circus that would go there too?

they had some good artistic people working for them.
the organ music was great ,i think its a life you have to be born into,
and the transport not one but sometimes two trailers those guys could handle them,

I lived in kirkland street in the 50's & 60's, as a kid, i could not wait for Silckocks fair to come !! happy day's, life was good the lol, remember the Cocks & Hens ride ?

THE BOXING BOOTHS WERE OWNED BY ,BATTLING SULLIVAN . WHO ONCE FOUGHT REGGIE MEEN FOR THE BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE . AND HIS SONS SAMMY AND JOHN .H . FOUGHT FOR AND WON MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLES . THE BIG WRESTLING BOUT WAS ALWAYS BABE BILLY BEECH (*DR DEATH) AGAINST A PIE EATER CALLED SCOTTIE AMBROSE .. HAD MANNY A TWO PENCE WIN BY PUSHING A PENNY ON THE APPROPRIATE SQUARE ON THE ROLL A PENNY STALLS WITH A TWIG FROM THE BUSHES .. GREAT TIMES REMEMBERED.

I can picture the dancing man now Ely,with his fancy silk scarves and his fancy arm movements
he scared the girls but i must say he never made contact with them, a real character of St Helens
now just a memo,like many others that once roamed the town,but thats another tropic,
