Hell Graham - I renamed the topic from 'Does any one remember' because we could end up with hundreds like that in this forum. :)

Hello ukgray and welcome to the forum, why it is called the twang is because people used to dive off it and it is shaped like a twang (CATAPULT),it was a tree and when it was cut down they left the stump in the ground,it is still there in the second flash from the bridge as you are walking towards Haydock.

Well I`ll go to foot of our stairs who would have thought it was named after a tree Posted Image
I always thought it was called the TWANG because the flash split into to two branches like a catapult or twang .

Incidentally how did you make a catapult, we used to use an old bed spring elastic and a tounge from an old boot

Thanks Graham Posted Image
