That's a lovely Church OY,I love the old ones not keen on the modern build, the black and white seems to take it back in time, good pics.

I love old churches and gravestones, I really like the way you've captured the shadows, truly atmospheric!

Beautiful shots, the tombstones look like they're on the the move - reminded me of men marching.

What a beautiful church, Oy - being the nosey mare that I am, I couldn't resist finding out a bit more about it. St.Michael and All Angels, Altcar. There's a photo of the interior on page 5 of this link as well.

Thanks Oy, Wonderful Photos, as Honey said, truly atmospheric!

On the link, I particularly liked this,

Many of our regular congregation live elsewhere, and newcomers are always welcome. If you think that transport might be a problem for you, then contact David (altcarstm@aol.com) and we can see if we can help. If you remember the ravages of last winter - we are happy to say that we have replaced our heating system!

And of course the Poem,

Win's Poem

ALTCAR PARISH CHURCH

by Win Green.

I love this old church. It’s not famous or grand
Surrounded by trees, with the green fields beyond
in summer or winter, in sunshine or rain
we meet at the lychgate that stands down the lane

The little path winds and soon we’re inside
the feeling or peace and comfort abide
the strains of the organ the choir as they sing
All add to the joy this old church can bring .

So if you are lonely, if you’re reeling sad
Come join us at Altcar I know you’ll be glad
A welcome awaits you, a handshake, a smile
And a warm invitation to stay for awhile.

This poem was found recently by John San,
and formed part of David’s sermon on Back to Church Sunday.

Win Green lived in Marina Road,
was a longstanding and faithful member of St. Michael’s and died in 2001
