Watching the antics and medlomania of Rafael Benitez, I very quickly became convinced he was a pillock and destined to ruin Liverpool.

It took a few seasons, but he succeeded with stupid ideas of zonal marking and player rotation.

When he inevitably went, I was a little surprised to see Daglish at the helm, but I was prepared to give him a chance.

What a let down.

I couldn’t believe that he paid 35 million quid for Andy Carroll. A "striker" who hardly ever scores. At Newcastle, he played 80 games and scored 31 goals. That worse than 1 goal in every 2 games, its almost 1 goal every 3 games. What kind of a "striker" is that?

Still for 35 million pounds he must have something. He does, he is the most expensive British player ever and the 8th most expensive player of all time.

Kenny what were you thinking of? Thirty-one goals in 80 games at Newcastle. It gets worse, in 2007-2008 he was put on loan to Preston North End. Result 1 goal in 11 games.

Its unbelievable that Liverpool paid 35 million pounds sterling for this guy.

Again tonight, I couldn’t believe Dalglish – against the top of the league – a side with an ENORMOUS goal difference and playing at home, he failed to start the game without Bellamy. The one player who can make something out of nothing, and he does so time and again. Scoring or making them.

All this is reminiscent Bernitez and surely destined to fail.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but I agree that Carroll is simply not the player for Liverpool. I suspect the hand of the Diredctor of Football Damien Comolli was behind the deal.

We have a track record of big deals for forwards who never quite live up to expectations, but Carroll is probably the worst so far.

We're still clinging on to 6th place having scored just 24 goals in 20 games - Bolton are bottom having scored 23. City have scored 56 in 20 games. It's clear to see from those figures that we have to score more goals.

We've drawn 6 games at home. Just one extra goal in each of those games would have given us as extra 12 points. putting us just 2 points behind the leaders.

All this blag about hitting the woodwork more than anybody else, best defence (before last night), is just noise. We need to score and as you say, given the current squad ponly Bellamy is probably capable.

the team reina apart was falling apart under benitez, the way he hawked alonso around europe was a disgrace, under dalglish the team at least is showing signs of cementing into a very good unit, most credit though must go to steve clarke who for me is the best coach in the game and the current partnership is so reminiscent of the shankly/paisley days with king kenny being the frontman and clarke being the tactician. we need time to gel but when we do we will be up there challenging for the title once again. i would love us to sign steven fletcher from wolves who for me is the best striker (van persie apart) in the premier league at present.

I watched them last night and they were woeful, City did to Liverpool what we saw Liverpool doing to teams all the time in their pomp, they are losing their way, Carroll should be glad Torres isn't scoring because all the media attention would be on Carroll himself. A total waste of space and money in my opinion.

I am not really into fooball, but i did wonder at the time why they spent so much on an untested player it was as though they got the money off torres and thought they had to spend it straightaway I wonder how much they would get for him now

I was going to join this debate about two of my favourite football people, and say quite a bit. But I found this on one of my other forums and it say virtually I wanted to say about the great Rafael Benitez (spelled correctly).

http://www.theanfiel...m/2012/01/rafa/

This next bit is just my opinion, but sounds very plausible. Who brought Kenny Dalglish back into the fold at Anfield, as Head of the Academy and an ambassadorial role? Mr Benitez, fact lol.. Do you think that now Kenny has taken over as manager they don't communicate with each other (it doesn't say so in the S*n, so they must hate each other). You hear it all the time in interviews with other managers. 'Manager so and so is always available with with some friendly advice'.
Right, how much experience does Kenny have in Europe, manager wise.Virtually nil, one season in the Champions League with Blackburn a long time ago IIRC.And HJ, I know Steve Clarke has experience working under Mourinho, but I don't think he has the footballing brain that Rafa has got.
Now that is where Rafa will come in. I'm not saying LFC will have two managers, but Kenny has the nous and the experiance to win the league where Rafa was left wanting, Or maybe It's Kenny's remit to get us back into the CL/ win the PL, then Rafa will come in and lead us into Europe. With proper financial backing to sign the right players.
We don't know what goes on at boardroom level and neither does the media. They only know what they are drip fed by the club, which isn't enough to fill there rags. As I said, this is only what I think. and have thought it for a long time.
As you can see this is not one of my usual one liner post, because this topic is about one of my two passions music and football

Please read the link, it had me dewey eyed, soft B*****d

Who do you suggest? How about bringing in someone from the reserves. That normally works as a quick fix, because the opposition will take time to suss them out
By the way i'm not one for knocking our players but Andy Caroll was an embarrassment yesterday, not because of his football, because of his constant falling on the floor, trying to get free kicks/ penalties. If he'd have stayed on his feet he may have won a few headers

Carrol is a bad buy for Liverpool, the one at the moment I like is Graham Swansea and Ba Newcastle, both have given me money back on my first goals bets.

Again after tonights result, Gerrard, 3 goals and not a "striker" where was the 35 million pound Andy Carroll?

I have asked numerous footy supporters and no one can answer this question,

Who, today would pay 1 Million pounds for Carrol??

As Macca said in the commentary, If you are a striker and you are not scoring goals you should be holding up the ball and putting you colleages into play, which AC did very well tonight on several occasions. He's come into his own over the last couple of weeks and tonight was one his better performances. Albeit over a very poor Everton side on tonight's performance
