We'd had a massive clear-out of all the travelling mercenaries from the dark side of the Pennines.

We took a busload of supporters from Cumbria and they sang "We'll support you ever more" after the game!!!! We were only 32 - 0 down at half-time but conceded 80 points in the second half. That score was a new professional record margin for a few years

Believe it or not, we went on to have a decent season after that and finished better than mid-table
