How can such a nice guy socially be such a pain in the arse as a Sky commentator? His obsession with referees' wrong calls (which are invariably exonerated on a video replay) causes me to frequently watch a game with the "mute" button pressed.

He's only signed a new five-year deal with Sky!

They love their rugby, even though some of the commentary is questionable. I like Eddie and Stevo.

Yes, I had a late-night drink with Stevo in the Peebles Hydro after the Saints v Wigan Challenge Cup Final, a final best forgotten by the way. He's a smashing bloke to talk to but he just irritates the life out of me the way he nitpicks every refereeing decision. I know club fans like to focus more on ref's "bent" decisions than their own team's shortcomings but he's meant to be broadcasting to a much wider audience than the one-eyed club supporters

I agree with you Alan that some of the comments that they make are a bit inane, but when he points out the ref mistakes shall we call them. He is in fact talking to a wider audience than the club based members.

It's his job to give his opinion. Sometimes he says things which he knows will cause up roar.
He thinks the Saints are a great side and a great club, but what would happen in Wigan,Warrington and Leeds if he said that on TV
Eddie is there to commentate, Stevo there to irritate.
That's sky for you.
What is the saying "He who pays the piper calls the tune"
He likes a nicely chilled white wine after a match. I doubt that you will see Eddie to have a drink with him, but he is a very good sport when you do catch up with him.
There are plenty of bars in the new stadium to have a drink with friends.Happy New Season.
