We all have memories but sometimes these are false or we think "Did that reallyhappen?" I don't ever remembering it raining in school summer holidays but it must have done.
Two memories from my childhood; one is a true memory but is the other?
The true one - the ferry to New Brighton stopping in mid-channel and a WWII magnetic mine bobbing about in the water.
The other memory - perhaps you can help me out with this one. T J Hughes' at the top of London Road, Liverpool. They had two buildings there - the main department store and across a side street was a two storey building with furniture and white goods. I have a vivid memory of getting in the lift in the department store and getting out of it in the other store as if the lift car went into the basement, travelled sideways under the strret and into the furniture store lift shsaft. Did it or was I just imagining it?
In the time it fas taken me to read this - another memory had emerged from the deep, dark recesses. Every time I saw Santa in TJ's grotto, he always gave me a bus conductors outfit1.

Before TJ Hughes finally went bust, there were at four shops to the 'store'. The one on the opposite corner of Stafford Street sold furniture and beds etc; another one sold shoes and the fourth sold luggage.

MrH, there was a connecting underpass between the 2 sites (well b4 Olllies memory of 4 shops) but a sideways lift? I don't recall that one. I also received many a conductor's set.
As for the mine, sounds very probable.
Does anyone remember the Hovercraft sailing between Leasowe and Rhyll it lasted for one season (1961). Did anybody travel on it??
