The pub has had its ups and downs over the last few years, but it re-opened again recently. I know there have been endless rumours about the place, mainly, the police-or an ex police officer- owns it.
And also people say they have a problem with the CCTV thats installed.
firstly, its not owned,or run,by the police. The man who owns it has several pubs around the north west, including the Cricketers in town. The couple running it for him are a lovely couple, who have run pubs here and abroad. They give everyone a warm welcome.
Regarding the CCTV,I personally dont have a problem with it.A lot of pubs are going down the same route. And its as much for the benefit of the customers,as well as the staff and owners. My guess is,if someone had their purse/wallet stolen,or they were attacked in the pub, they would be the first to ask if the pub has cameras!!
With so many pubs going under these days, either being demolished,or turned into flats/offices,surely we should be supporting as many of our local pubs as possible?

Good call, Andy. There are far too many pubs reopening as restaruants of dubious value/quality these days.

CCTV in pubs just brought back a memory. A few years ago we were taken to a bar in Corfu run by an English bloke we called Sam the Sham - for various reasons (he was later arrested by Interpol in Belgium, but that's another story). The Aussie friend I was with kept making a point of asking me if I needed the loo and in the end I gave up and went with her (I thought she was losing the plot and in the early stages of dementia) - only to have pointed out to me, hidden behind a vase of plastic flowers high on the wall of the actual toilet, a camera!! The pervy owner watched from behind the bar every time some unsuspecting woman went and sat down! My friend had been told by the Greek bloke who actually owned the building. Later that night the four of us went back and stuck a huge notice on the front wall of the bar giving details of Sham's activities. He didn't last long running a bar.
