AH i remember Secret Sam a suitcase with all kinds of gadgets.a gun that turned into a rifle etc. Also Johnney seven a multi purpose rifle that fired grenades bullets etc but my all time favourite was scalextric especially the four laner.Oh the simplicity of Lego and Meccano!no sims and broadband to play with people on the other side of the world? We had mates in them days, who used to come round yer house to play,Now if my grandaughters friends want to come our house to play with her,we need a visit from the social services, the health inspector and 3 generations of various denominations just to prove we're not racist, subversive child molesting ,illegal immigrants. The world has seriously gone daft!BTW we are none of the abovePosted Image

Besides all the usual dolls, teddies, Andy Pandy, stencil sets, boxed games - one christmas present stands out from all the rest.

My Godfather (g-uncle Jimmy) was in the Royal Navy and he frequently brought me things from his travels. This particular christmas he brought a Schuco Varianto Elektra car set with three vehicles - maybe, for some reason, he forgot I was a girl :dunno:. On Christmas morning, the wire tracks were all round the living room - under the TV set and the dining table - with grandad, dad and uncle Jimmy crawling around on all fours. Poor nan was trying her best to set the table and get christmas dinner served .

There is one old driving test game we used to have that you could guide small cars around a map
of London streets by rod and magnetic control

The best toy from the 40s I can remember was a Meccano set. It was a Number 3 set and all my pocket money went on buying additional bits. I used to dream about one day owning the top-of-the-line - a No. 10 set.

My favourite toy was my Tressy Doll, you turned a key and her hair grew.
I also had a Dolls House. I was so sad when I had to get rid of them,
but just as Skyman said he was 14, I was 20 and getting married. Posted Image

I have just cleared my Mum's house out after she passed away, and what did I find, only my Hornby train set! Three engines and rolling stock, even a Royal Mail carriage that used to pluck sacks of mail off a post as it passed by, the three engines are The Duchess of Atholl, Duchess of Montrose, and a little black one like a shunter, I spent many an hour playing with that, and my Meccano, I even remember my Dad taking me down to Binns Rd off Edge Lane in Liverpool to show me were they made Meccano.Posted Image

Good topic this one.
I also had a magic robot. I learned quite a bit of general knowledge from it. A Meccano set was something else I had. I remember making a windmill and powered it with another toy,my Mammod steam engine, which I have still got. A simple but fascinating toy I had was a Slinky, the coiled wire toy which would walk down stairs. I think you can still get them.
I remember at this time of the year when finishing my day at Lowe House I would visit the wonderful toy department in the Co-op basement. It was an aladdins cave of goodies for us kids.

You Lot have got me in tears.
All I had as a boy was a pair of football boots and a Trundle.
Christmas meant an Apple, an Orange, a Sugar pig, a new Penny and a Bar of Meesons Orange Chocolate which I didnt like.Posted Image
