remember going to the Lingholme quite regularly around 1980-81 when i was doing a youth leader training course somewhere in the Cowley Hill lane area, and we always went in there afterwards for a pint ... good pub ... sorry to see it has gone , but still can't understand why so many new flats and houses are actually needed when there is such high unemployment and jobs at risk etc? what is going on? it seems to be the same everywhere. I live in Liverpool and everywhere I look there are all these new houses which have been up for sale and to let for months?

There's possibly more needed due to the lack of decent housing options in 'good areas' - partly due to the 'Right To Buy System' that found many of the good quality houses in decent areas being bought by people who had lived there long enough to get a good discount.

Many Local Authorities (and Housing Associations that came from them) ended up with a surplus of housing stock in 'less desirable' areas - where I live there has had to be lots demolished because nobody would willingly accept them.

Why are they on the market/available for rent for so long - possibly because people are so unsure of their own long-term financial situation leaving them hesitant to commit to a mortgage. Sometimes private rents are ridiculously over-priced - leaving the prospective tenant with having to find a month's rent in advance plus a large deposit besides removal expenses.

Lots of them in my area (Huyton) as well, liz.

The general thinking seems to be that 'bad tenants' will learn, by example, to become 'good tenants' - I've yet to see it happen .
